BASL sources have been quoted in the media saying that over 300 land owners had approached the Association for help and the lawyers of the BASL had responded positively.
The BASL sources have observed that hundreds of acres of land owned by Tamils in the North are to be acquired by the government ahead of the Northern Provincial Council polls.
"We will be appearing for the aggrieved parties for free following a request made to us by them," the BASL has said.
The Executive Committee of the BASL is expected to ratify the decision at its next meeting.
The government has decided to acquire 6,381 hectares of the land in Jaffna that is now being used as High Security Zones permanently and has allocated Rs. 400 million to pay as compensation to the owners.
