Apr 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Buddhist monk led Ravana Balaya organization today handed over a letter to the National Film Corporation demanding to stop screening of South Indian Tamil movies in Sri Lanka.
As an alternative, the Ravana Balaya proposed the screening of Kerala Thelingu movies in the island.
Ravana Balaya says in its letter that the proposed ban on Tamil movies is in retaliation to the protests by the Tamil cinema artistes against Sri Lanka government.
The fundamentalist group further says that the ban on Tamil movies will have a great effect on the economy of Tamil Nadu.
Over 15 percent of Sri Lankans including Sri Lankan and Indian origin Tamils and Muslims speak Tamils.
