No Fire Zone’ to be screened in London on eve of Action Group meeting

In another anti-Sri Lanka move

By Sujeeva Nivunhella in London

The Front Line Club in London is planning to agitate against the Sri Lankan government  again by screening Callum Macrae’s latest documentary film ‘No Fire Zone’  based purportedly on the final 138 days of the battle against the LTTE.

A sneak preview screening of this 90-minute film will be held on Tuesday, April 23 at 7 pm. After the show, there will be a questions and answer session.

Political observers believe the screening of this film has been timed on the eve of the crucial Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) meeting scheduled to be held in London on April 26 to generate maximum anti-Sri Lanka impact.

The Sri Lankan government should tackle these issues head-on through its mission in London, they pointed out.

There are calls from the Canadian Government and some other Human Rights Groups for CMAG to discuss the conduct of Sri Lankan government during the upcoming meeting and stop the island nation from hosting the Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting in November this year.

Macrae has previously made an award winning documentary about  Sri Lanka war called ‘Sri Lanka’s Killing Fields’ for Channel 4 TV in the UK.

The Front Line Club says the following about the film on its website; "Civilians, Tiger camera operators and government soldiers filmed the events using small cameras and mobile phones. This disturbing footage was carefully analysed and authenticated by video analysts, and shows the extreme violence against Tamil civilians and bombing of hospitals by the Sri Lankan armed forces.

"Macrae pieces together the scenes with personal accounts from civilians, who survived the conflict and testimonies from UN officials, who were forced to leave the area. The Sri Lankan government contests the depiction of events shown in ‘No Fire Zone’ and dismisses the documentary as fake."
