Sri Lanka Buddhist monks' organization demands the arrest of major opposition Muslim leader

Apr 02, Colombo: A Sinhala Buddhist monks' organization today demanded the arrest of a Muslim leader of the major opposition United National Party (UNP) for organizing a protest campaign against Sinhalese.
Addressing a special press briefing today in Colombo, the Chairman of National Sangha Confederation Ven. Rajawatte Wappa Thero said that the UNP organizer of Central Colombo should be arrested.
The Buddhist monk also accused that extremist Muslim activists are based in Maligawatta township in Central Colombo area and the police have not yet arrested them.

Sri Lanka Muslim traders and businesses held an island wide hartal on March 25 to protest the growing anti-Muslim campaigns in the country.
The peaceful protest organized by the Muslim Rights Organization (MRO) of Sri Lanka was aimed to urge the government to take immediate actions to stop anti-Muslim campaigns, maintain law and order and promote communal harmony, according to the organizers.
