The Korea-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital was built at a cost of 1.27 billion rupees with the financial assistance from Korea International Cooperation Agency.

The President said that the free education and free health systems will be maintained while the country is being steered towards progress.
He stressed the need to create awareness in the public about the money the government spesnds on free education and healthcare and asked the people to make maximum use of the colossal sum of money spent on the development projects.
The government has spent 300 million rupees for the infrastructure facilities of the hospital while the Korea International Cooperation Agency has spent 970 million rupees to build the hospital and purchase equipment.
The two storied building complex comprises an Out Patient Department, Intensive Care Unit, wards, maternal and pediatric unit and surgical units. In addition the hospital houses the first sports medicine unit in the Southern region.
Korea-Sri Lanka Friendship Hospital is the 5th project that is commissioned for the public under the five-year national health development programme implemented by the Ministry of health from this year.
Ministers Maithripala Sirisena, Dullas Alahapperuma, Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Chandrasiri Gajadeera, Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijeyalal de Silva, Deputy Ministers Lalith Dissanayake, Wijaya Dahanayake, parliamentarians Hemal Gunasekera and Sanath Jayasuriya, Secretary of the Health Ministry Nihal Jayathilake, and the Korean Ambassador in Colombo participated in the occasion.
