Aug 03, Colombo: Representatives of all political parties in the Gampaha District got together Friday afternoon to discuss and find long and short-term solutions to immediately end the contaminated water crisis in the district.
Economic Development Minister and Gampaha District parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa has convened a meeting of representatives from all political parties representing the district at the Gampaha Government Agent's Office yesterday afternoon to find a solution to the problem people of 12 villages near Weliweriya, Gampaha were facing.
Representatives of the ruling alliance UPFA, main opposition UNP, and Marxist Frontline Socialist Party, along with the officials of the Environment, Health, Water Resources and Investment Promotion Ministries participated in the meeting.
The people's representatives at the meeting have decided to deploy, 10 tractor trailers and six more bowsers to deliver 300 water tanks in addition to the tankers distributing water to the 12 villages affected by the crisis.
As a permanent solution Minister Basil Rajapaksa also gave instructions to the relevant authorities to implement without delay the plan for providing the people with pipe-borne water.
The Minister has also stressed the need to protect the environment and raising the people's living standards parallel.
