Even as a section of Congress leaders recently held the BJP's "communal face", especially in the wake of 2002 Gujarat riots, responsible for the birth of the country's most active terror outfit -- Indian Mujahideen (IM) -- the Delhi Police does not seem to agree with the ruling party's view.
As the BJP and the Congress played politics over the Batla House encounter case verdict, Headlines Today accessed a report of Delhi Police's Special Cell that exposes the IM's agenda.
The police report says that the IM came into existence in 2000 and not post-2002 riots. It also mentions that the outfit was nurtured by Pakistan's rogue intelligence agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The report further states that the underworld was used for headhunting terror recruits in the beginning, but later the IM started its own terror factory.
The controversy over IM's origin was started by Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad when he blamed the Gujarat riots in his tweet as he cited a chargesheet by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) earlier this week.
"Indian Mujahideen (IM) was formed after the Gujarat riots, says NIA in its chargesheet. Even now BJP and RSS will not desist from communal politics?" Ahmad had posted on Twitter.
His statement was endorsed by party colleagues Rasheed Masood and Digvijaya Singh with the latter going further with an attack on BJP patriarch L.K. Advani for his Ayodhya Yatra, saying it aided terrorism and communalism in the country.
When the controversy started taking an ugly turn, Congress distanced itself from these leaders' statements, saying they were giving their personal opinions.
