A writ application filed by Nipuna Ramanayake and his mother, citing as respondents, Deputy Inspector General of Police Vass Gunawardena, Mrs. Shyamali Gunawardena and their son Ravindu was called before the Court of Appeal, yesterday and fixed for support on August 5, 2013.

The petitioners have requested the Attorney General to indict Vass Gunawardena for ordering that Nipuna be taken to the Crime Investigation Division, Colombo, subsequent to being assaulted allegedly by Mrs. Gunawardena and son Ravindu at their residence. DIG Gunawardena is also alleged to have detained Nipuna for one day at the CCD, without admitting him to a hospital to seek treatment for the injuries he had sustained due to assault.

Attorney-at-Law J. C. Weliamuna appeared for the petitioners.

State Counsel Azard Navavi appeared for the Attorney General. The Bench comprised, President of the Court of Appeal Justice S. Sriskandarajah, and Justice Malinee Guneratne.
