July 04, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court today warned the wife of the senior police officer arrested for killing a businessman, when she appeared in the court today. The Colombo Additional Magistrate A.M. Sahabdeen ordered Shyamalee Gunawardena Perera, the wife of former DIG Vass Gunawardena to appear before Court on July 9 when the case was taken on the 25th of June.
The former DIG was arrested and is in remand now for the kidnapping and murder of Mohammad Shyam, a millionaire businessman in Bambalapitiya, in May.
When the counsel for Ms. Perera produced her in court today, the judge ordered her not to interfere and threaten witnesses in the murder case after the court was informed that Ms. Perera has allegedly threatened the wife of a witness in the murder case against her husband.
