June 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka police in the southern town of Akmeemana have arrested a young Buddhist monk for the beating death of a man, local media reported.
Akmeemana Police today arrested the 26 year old monk residing in a temple at Labuduwa in Galle for the death of a 44 year old man.
The monk has allegedly assaulted the victim with a cricket bat hitting his head over a verbal argument escalated into a fatal confrontation.
The victim has reportedly left the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital where he was admitted following the assault and the family has later admitted him to the Udugama Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday.
Akmeemana Police are continuing further investigations.
