June 23, Colombo: Sri Lanka Police Department has appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police L.G. Kularatna as the new Deputy Inspector General of Colombo North. He takes up the position vacated by the former DIG Vaas Gunawardena who was fired following his arrest over suspected contract killing of a businessman.
Kularatna functioned as the Deputy Inspector General of Police of Trincomalee district. Batticaloa DIG V. Indran has been appointed to fill Kularatna's position.
According to police headquarters sources former DIG Vaas Gunawardena's arrest made shock waves in the Department. He is the senior most officer of the Sri Lanka police force ever arrested over a heinous crime.
