Impeached Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake has hinted that she may enter politics to support the cause of a ``just society where the rule of law reigns.’’
In an interview with the Maubima weekly on the streets yesterday, she spoke about her childhood, academic and legal careers and the parting of ways with the executive that eventually saw her become the first judge to be impeached in Sri Lanka.
She said she was ending her public silence because she felt it important to keep the public informed in the face of a continuing smear campaign against her.
Asked what her response would be if invited to be a common opposition candidate at a future presidential election, she said: "My life is in the law. My life has nothing to do with politics. I have no such expectations. But, if people decide that my contribution is necessary to build a society governed by rule of law, I am willing to make any sacrifice.’’
