When the case on the mass grave was taken up for hearing today at the Matale Magistrate's Court, the court informed that an international police investigation has been called for and DNA tests would be conducted after the conclusion of this investigation.
The court also ordered the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of police to publish notices in all three languages for anyone to come forward with any information on the people missing.
Meanwhile, the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) has intervened to get relatives of the persons who went missing during the JVP's 1988-1989 resurrection era to hand 22 more affidavits to the court today.
The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has decided to act as observers and a member of the Executive Committee of the BASL Attorney Anura Medagoda had represented BASL in court today. The mass grave was unearthed in November last year at the premises of the Matale Hospital and 154 skeletal remains were exhumed from the gravesite. Forensic experts determined that the time of the skeletal remains was between 1986 and 1990.
