May 30, Colombo: Ally of Sri Lanka's governing party, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) says the party would not support the abolition of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. SLMC Leader and Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem has said that the SLMC would not take any action to support the abolition of the 13th Amendment.
He said the party's stance was that the 13th Amendment should not be revised in any way and there should not be any change in the land and police powers vested with the provinces under the 13th Amendment.
According to Hakeem, the SLMC would only support any change to the 13th Amendment if the change mooted would bring about a reinforcement of the conditions put forth by the Amendment
