May 09, Colombo: A nationalist movement in Sri Lanka, the Ravana Balaya, has threatened to stop screening of movies with Tamil Nadu actors in the country.
Secretary of the Ravana Balaya, Ven. Ittakande Saddathissa Thero has threatened to stop the screening of films starring Tamil Nadu actors like Vijey, Kamal Haasan, Sarath Kumar or Rajanikanth.
He has said the organization would not make such a threat if it could not actually do it.
The Thero has made these comments during a discussion with Chairman of the National Film Corporation, Asoka Serasinghe.
Ravana Balaya had handed over a letter to Serasinghe over a month ago expressing the organization's opposition to the importing of Tamil Nadu films to the country.
"A state institution is incapable of sending an official reply to a letter, that raises issues about Sri Lanka's miracle," Ven. Saddhatissa Thero has said.
He has added that Sri Lankans should also take some form of action at a time when the Tamil Nadu State government is trying to acquire the Katchatheevu Island.
Although the Chairman of Film Corporation has agreed with the Thero that movies with Tamil Nadu actors should not be screened in Sri Lanka, he has said that it was not his decision to make, and if a request is made he will discuss it with the Minister and take a decision.
