Trend Micro has also discovered that the malware performs DNS queries to several domain names which suggest that people behind this are prepared for server malfunction.
The latest malware alert comes at a time when Symantec Internet Security Threat Report 18 warned that it has noticed a 280 per cent increase in bot infections in India. In fact, India accounts for nearly 15 per cent of global bot-net spam, responsible for disseminating an estimated 280 million spam messages per day worldwide. In addition the report highlights a 42 per cent surge during 2012 in global targeted attacks, as compared to the prior year. Anand Naik, Managing Director-Sales, India & SAARC, Symantec said there was a clear focus among cybercriminals to target individuals, systems and organisations where the highest profits can be made.
The report has also highlighted the three-fold increase in attacks on small businesses from 2011. And Indian businesses are feeling the heat most. One in 661 emails was a phishing email for small Indian businesses and one in 248 emails carried a virus, while for larger Indian enterprises with 1,000-1,500 employees, one in 4,751 emails was a phishing email and one in 1,611 carried a virus, it said.
