Sri Lanka in maritime hub push

Apr 28, 2013 (LBO) - A logistics conference and exhibition pushing Sri Lanka's position as a maritime hub will be flagged off by the island's President Mahinda Rajapaksa on May 02, featuring regional and international players, organizers said.
The event will have international and local exhibitors and expert panels exploring key emerging trends in the region, Seatrade , a consultancy that is organizing the event said. It is hosted by Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The two-day conference will look at building and financing maritime facilities, transport infrastructure projects in the Indian Ocean region, Sri Lanka's position as a maritime hub, off and onshore energy development, free zones and waterborne tourism and marinas. Speakers and panelists will include officials from key state institutions in Sri Lanka such as the ports, tourism and petroleum development agencies, the central bank and government ministers. Top officials from Essar Ports, ADPC, Class NK, Colombo International Container Terminals, Colombo Dockyard will be speaking or taking part as resource persons in specialist sector panels.
The event will have an awards ceremony with Namal Rajapaksa, a legislator who is President Rajapaksa's son being guest of honour. Sky News anchor Jeremey Thompson will compere the awards.
